PNG to SVG Converter

PNG to SVG is a free converter that traces a PNG or JPG into a layered vector SVG, with one layer per color, ready for Cricut, Silhouette or design apps. It can remove the background and small specks, and it warns you about pieces too small to cut. Tracing happens in your browser, so your image is never uploaded.

Convert a PNG (or JPG) into a scalable SVG made of clean vector shapes, grouped into one layer per color. Remove stray specks, drop the background, and use the Cricut helper to see how many layers you'll cut and whether any pieces are too small. The conversion runs entirely in your browser.

Logos, clip art, text and simple illustrations convert best. JPG and WebP work too.

Copyright reminder: Only convert images you own or have permission to use. Tracing someone else's logo, character, or artwork doesn't change who owns it, and selling cuts made from copyrighted or trademarked designs can get you into legal trouble.

How to Convert PNG to SVG

Step by step

  1. Upload your PNG. A high-resolution image with crisp edges gives the cleanest result.
  2. Set the number of colors. Use 2 for a one-color decal or text, and 3 to 8 for multi-color designs.
  3. Clean it up. Raise "Remove specks" to get rid of noise and stray dots, and adjust curve smoothing until the edges look right.
  4. Check the Cricut helper. Enter the size you plan to cut and see how many layers and pieces you'll get, plus any that are too small.
  5. Download the SVG and upload it to Cricut Design Space, Silhouette Studio (Designer Edition or higher), Inkscape, Illustrator, or Figma.

What's the difference between PNG and SVG?

A PNG is made of pixels, so it gets blurry or blocky when you enlarge it. An SVG describes shapes with math (lines and curves), so it stays sharp at any size. Cutting machines need those outlines to know where to cut, which is why Cricut crafters convert PNGs to SVGs.

How do I use the SVG in Cricut Design Space?

In Design Space, click Upload, then Upload Image, and choose the SVG you downloaded. Each color comes in as its own layer, so you can hide layers, change colors, or attach and weld pieces. If you plan to layer vinyl, the layer count in the Cricut helper tells you how many different materials you'll need.

Why does the helper warn about small pieces?

Very small or skinny pieces tend to tear, lift off the mat, or get lost while weeding. The helper measures each shape's bounding box at the size you plan to cut and flags anything narrower than the minimum you chose. It's an estimate, not a guarantee. Thin curves can still be tricky even if their bounding box is big enough. If you see a lot of warnings, try fewer colors, more speck removal, or a larger cut size.

Why does my SVG look different from the PNG?

Tracing simplifies the image into flat areas of color. Photos, gradients, soft shadows and textures don't vectorize well because they contain thousands of slightly different colors. For the best results, start with flat artwork, use fewer colors, and remove the background before converting.

Is this PNG to SVG converter free and private?

Yes. It's free with no watermark or sign-up, and your image is traced by your own browser using the open-source imagetracerjs library. Nothing is uploaded. See our Privacy Policy.
